KONSEP KASIH SAYANG PENDIDIK TERHADAP MURID DALAM PEMIKIRAN AL-GHAZALI

Abstract

This article examines the concept of an educator's compassion toward students in the thought of Imam Al-Ghazali, as articulated in his seminal works Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din and Ayyuha al-Walad. Al-Ghazali places compassion (syafaqah wa rahmah) as one of the primary pillars in the pedagogical relationship between teacher and student. According to him, a true educator must treat students as their own children, guiding them with love, patience, and sincerity without expecting material reward. This study employs a library research method with a content analysis approach to Al-Ghazali's works. The findings indicate that compassion in Al-Ghazali's perspective is not merely an emotional sentiment, but a moral-spiritual commitment manifested in the attitudes, actions, and responsibilities of the educator. This concept is highly relevant to contemporary Islamic education as a response to the crisis of exemplary conduct and the transactional relationships between teachers and students
